Treehaunt

A small (~1 M long) animal that roams the tropical and warmer temperate forests, the treehaunt is a bane to travellers in the wilderness, due to their inquistive and destructive natures. They build large nests in colonies high in the upper branches of trees. These colonies are formed of individual nests built by the males to house their harem, and in an old colony may number in the hundreds, spread over a large area. Treehaunts decorate these nests with brightly coloured things during the mating season - flowers, fruit and anything shiny they can lay their prehensile little paws on. This accounts for the ire of travellers because a swarm of treehaunts, while skittish, is all but fearless and they can devastate a camp in their search for nest decoration. Moreover, they have sharp teeth and claws, and in extremis can squirt a toxic spray from glands under their tail that can blind an opponent. They also use this spray to mark their territories and often add insult to injury by spraying gear they have mauled, rendering it unfit for use. Treehaunts are excellent climbers and leapers and in addition can glide short distances by stretching the loose skin between their fore and rear limbs. Treehaunts are a pale golden brown, with dark dappling around their eyes and muzzles. Both sexes have large, cat-like ears, and males have two white ruffs that fluff out below their ears.
