Fangfoot

This small predator stands only about 1 metre tall, on its hind legs and is about 1.5 metres long, with over half that being its elegantly feathered tail. The Fangfoot is so named for its enormous, dagger-like middle toe. The little beast can sprint amazingly fast on its long, muscular hind legs and can jump several times its own length. When running or jumping the middle toe is folded up away from the ground, but when it attacks, it flicks its toe down to kick with the over-size central claw. Its forelegs have atrophied into small, weak arms, tipped with little sharp claws, but it rarely uses these to fight. The Fangfoot normally poses little harm to humans, but they multiply rapidly and can strip an area bare of the smaller prey they normally live on. When this happens, the animals gather in packs, which attack even quite large animals, and these packs then migrate, seeking new hunting grounds. A Fangfoot swarm can be terribly dangerous, since they can sweep the land they pass through clean of animal life, including any village which happens to be in their path.
