Alambra (Captain of the guard)

 

Alambra is the captain of the Palace Guard. Unusually, he was the captain of the Palace guard under the previous Fon as well. This is because he is utterly without any kind of political morality. He served the last Fon faithfully and serves the current one in the same way - as long as his particular needs are met. He kept his job because he is a useful personage. In addition to being a competent warrior, he knows a lot about the city, who is trying to kill whom and why. While not brilliant, he has a very acute animal cunning.

Alambra used to be a sellsword and a very good warrior, who also performed a little theft on the side. Unfortunately he got caught while trying to pilfer goods from a temple caravan. He escaped with his life, but one of the soreceror-priests cursed the one greedy enough to try to rob them. Since then, Alambra has been consumed with gluttony. He eats and drinks constantly, and as a result he has become enormously fat. His little piggy eyes peer out from over bulging cheeks and his neck is invisible behind multiple chins. He no longer makes much of a thief since his huffing and puffing when he moves gives him away. His clothes are almost always grease-spattered and stained with the remnants of past meals - although of good cut and materials - and his face normally also bears remnants of past meals. Alambra has given up worrying about personal hygiene (never a strong point in Shashamansse anyway) so his hair sticks out at all angles and his personal odour is... well, you get the picture. When encountered, he is very likely to have a bowl of spicy food nearby and will dip into it continously. He even does this while interogating prisoners - and it has become a joke among the guards that he will snack on the prisoners from time to time. Some of them say it isn't a joke.....
