Melisande's older brothers and one reason that she has not, ahem, compromised herself with Carylon. They work as stevedores on the docks, carrying heavy loads and generally earning a small wage by doing odd jobs. All four have a reputation as "rough types" and are touchy about Melisande - they see her being selected as a huge credit tot heir otherwise undistinguished family and will defend her honour against all comers.
